Blooming in the Basement

I always like the idea of the basement and attic as being symbolic of our sub-conscious.  In those areas there is great fecundity - like a day lily blooming out of the  dark, deep purple earth.

Lucy Goes out in Style

For the past five years I have had the privilege of doing a client's Christmas card showcasing the gorgeous, Lucy.  2011 depicted her driving off with her red scarf a flowing Snoopy style.  She made it through the holidays but left this realm a couple days ago.  Rest in peace furry wondrous one.

Boden Opens in Pittston

The Boden Clothing Store has opened on Main Street in Pittston - a grand opening on Friday introduced the store with great food, music and big art works amongst the "Anthropology-esque" clothes.
Shown on the left is  Dream 1 on silk which is 50" x 50" framed.

Today I drove up past Hamlin to pick up a great sculpture I purchased at the Artworks Gallery this summer by Matt Povse. 
I'm so excited to assemble it and enjoy it for a life time.  Here's a shot of him in his studio.

Growing like an Asparagus?!?

About thirteen years ago I did an asparagus growth chart in the mud room of a home in Shavertown,Pa.  The family has documented the date and growth of their four children - from the time they could stand by themselves, to the height to which they've matured.  I recently completed another asparagus - fresh for charting growth - on a piece of wood which can be taken with this new family of three should they ever move.

Beauty and Pain

"One of my favorite stories is told about Renoir, the famous french painter.  Apparently, when he was older, he suffered greatly from arthritis, but he kept painting anyhow.  On one occassion his friend, Matisse, said to him, 'Renoir, why do you keep painting when you are in so much pain?'

Renoir simply replied, 'the pain passses, but the beauty remains.'"
